The department of Hematology/Oncology is a team of medical profession dealing with research, education, and patient care in the field of cancer and blood disease. Quite contrary to other institutions where department of Hematology and that of Oncology are separated from each other, they are united together at Inha University Hospital. In fact, two disciplines are inseparable because in-depth practice of Oncology is impossible without profound knowledge of Hematology. The integrated program of Hematology and Oncology at Inha University Hospital makes the team employ the most comprehensive state-of-art care in the treatment of cancer and blood dyscrasia. The department is staffed with 5 Faculty Members, 5 House Officers, 19 Oncology Nurses, 1 Research Nurse, 1 Transplantation Coordinator, 2 Social Workers, and many Hospice Volunteers. The important facilities include Cancer Ward (Ward 17 West), Laminar Flow Rooms (fifth floor), Comprehensive Cancer Center (third floor) consisting of Multidiscplinary Clinic and Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Center, Apheresis Rooms (second floor), Stem Cell Cryopreservation Unit (second floor), and Outpatient Clinic (first floor). Multidiscplinary Clinic is seeking best treatment of the patient through consultation with Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Psychiatry. Chemotherapy is main activity of the department, most of which is carried out on ambulatory basis at Comprehensive Cancer Center. All kinds of cancer including solid tumors and blood cancers are being treated by renowned experts at the department. Clinical trials are being carried out for breast cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, hepatoma, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, head and neck cancer, uterine cervix cancer, ovarian cancer, sarcoma, lymphoma, myeloma, and leukemias. The department is famous for the expertise in BMT as well as clinical research.
