Pulmonary and Critical care medicine

Introduction

The Department of Pulmonology addresses various conditions, including the rapidly increasing incidence of lung cancer, as well as benign and malignant tumors affecting the lungs, airways, pleura, and mediastinum.

These diseases are diagnosed and treated within the pulmonology department, which collaborates with related specialties such as thoracic surgery and radiation oncology to ensure the best possible care.

The department also manages a range of chronic pulmonary diseases, including allergic and non-allergic bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) like chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and interstitial lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis, which can occur alone or in conjunction with systemic diseases. Additionally, it addresses respiratory diseases prevalent in the elderly, occupational lung diseases, and ventilation disorders, including sleep apnea syndrome associated with snoring.

Furthermore, pulmonology encompasses critical care medicine, including the management of acute respiratory failure and adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), often utilizing mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit.
